Since this is a web-based course, you are not required (or even expected) to have access to a library of textbooks. Nonethless, it is a college requirement that all courses have so-called reading lists. In part, this page is to satisfy this requirement. However, it is also an opportunity to list a few books on the subject of crystallography and powder diffraction that we ourselves have found useful in either teaching or research.
Two books that we can highly recommend, if you have the money and really want to buy a textbook, are highlighted in red below. An old favourite on the subject of powder diffraction is the book by Klug & Alexander, a classic textbook that is sadly now out of print. The book edited by Giacovazzo is an excellent general crystallographic textbook, but one that goes much deeper into the subject than required for this course.
