Validation of Courses by
Professional Persons/Bodies
School of Crystallography, Birkbeck College, University of London |
Subject Review Meeting of 21 July 1999
Item 4
It was agreed that the President of the British Crystallographic Association (BCA), Prof. Mike Glazer of the Clarendon Laboratory, University of Oxford, would be asked in the first instance to validate the course and its contents. In addition, Mr David Taylor, formerly of Pilkington and a recent ex-Chairman of the Industrial Group of the BCA would also be invited to make comments from an industrial viewpoint. It was also thought appropriate that Prof. Bob Cernik as Chairman of the IUCr Commission on Powder Diffraction should act as the "internal" course moderator in his role as an honory member of the School of Crystallography at Birkbeck College.
[ACTION by PB and JKC]
Following the election of Lachlan Cranswick (of CCP14) to several relevant IUCr Commissions/Committees, it was decided that he should also be invited to comment on the course material. In particular, it was felt that feedback from a younger person highly-attuned to the Internet would be especially valuable.
[ACTION by JKC]
Following internal discussions (HPCD/PB/JKC), it was decided that it qould be useful to have a standard set of questions for people reviewing the web courses. The initial version was drafted for the PX course and has since been adopted for use with PD (see here).
