Subj: Regarding a new phase
Jeremy,
I was hoping that you could help me out. All of the examples that I
have read through concerning indexing, refinements, etc. from the course
assume a primary understanding of the crystal structure which is to be
investigated. (Unless I have mis-read the course notes.)
I have recently identified a new phase of Pu (only obtainable under specific
conditions). As it is a new phase, I have no knowledge of the structure
other than d-spacings and intensities. I know the information I want to
obtain, i.e. symmetry, hkl's, lattice parameters etc. however, it does not
seem obvious to me how I can obtain any of these without prior knowledge of
at least one of these parameters.
Can you suggest any literature or briefly explain how I can go about
'getting a foot in the door' with regards to this problem.
I do hope that this is not too stupid a question.
Best regards,
Fraser Rowan
