The sample holders shown left and middle are for furnace use:
One is a standard steel holder and the other is a small sapphire holder
for very high-temperature work.
The third sample holder shown right is a silicon single-crystal disc for ambient temperature work within the furnace. Further details on its use are given elsewhere. It is usually worthwhile having ambient temperature sample holders for use with a furnace since setting up and dismantling time results in significant loss of data acquisition time on the diffractometer.
